Mission statement/description
Discalced Carmelite nuns seek union with God by a consecrated life of prayer and self-sacrifice, striving to live the evangelical counsels as perfectly as possible in the spirit of Sts. Teresa of Avila and John of the Cross. Carmelites aid the mission of the Church by offering this contemplative form of religious life especially for priests and missionaries, as well as for the salvation of souls. |
Qualifications for entry
High school education, good physical and mental health, desire to give oneself totally to God in a balance of solitude and community life. |
Formation program
Postulancy of 6-12 months; novitiate of 24 months; temporary vows for three years (may be extended an additional three years if necessary). Solemn vows until death completes the consecration. |
