| About Us |
Mission statement/description
Established as a contemplative community within the Congregation of the Good Shepherd, the Contemplative Sisters of the Good Shepherd are called to live in union with Jesus, the Good Shepherd, and to continue His redemptive mission in the Church. Prayer is the very essence of their vocation. They pray for their apostolic sisters engaged in the ministry of reconciliation, for the Church and for the entire world. Zeal for souls is the special gift bequeathed to them by their foundress, St. Mary Euphrasia Pelletier. The sisters pray the Liturgy of the Hours five times a day. They make altar breads, sew vestments, and produce works of art to support themselves. |
Qualifications for entry
Single, Catholic woman who desires to love with the heart of Jesus, the Good Shepherd. |
Formation program
The inquiry stage is for 6-12 months followed by the pre-candidacy stage for 6-12 months. Candidacy is for six months to two years during which the candidate lives with the Good Shepherd community. Then there is a two-year novitiate devoted to prayer, reflection and study. In the second year of novitiate, the novice lives in the local community and continues to deepen her understanding of her contemplative vocation through prayer. After novitiate, the temporary professed sister continues to live her vowed life for between 5-9 years until final profession. |
