About Us
Mission statement/description
Impelled by the love of the Divine Heart of Jesus, in the spirit and zeal of the Carmelites of old, these sisters seek to win all souls for Christ through their contemplative and apostolic works of charity. They do this by providing "a home away from home" for children and the elderly. In the Central Province, the sisters care for the elderly at St. Agnes Home in Kirkwood, MO and Carmel Home in Owensboro, KY. On the same property in Kirkwood, the sisters also care for children ages 2-5 at their Carmelite Child Development Center. The first apostolate of Carmel is prayer. The Carmelites' foundress, Mother Maria Teresa of St. Joseph, received the grace from the Holy Spirit to unite prayer to apostolic works. Her words were "See God in all, serve God in all and love God in all." Through prayer, they are able to bring God's presence to the children and the elderly whom they serve. Wherever the Carmel of the Divine Heart of Jesus is, people find a home.
