Mission statement/description
The Apostolic Oblate is a lay consecrated woman in the world, but not of the world. Her specific vocation is to be leaven among people, and to witness among all the universal call to holiness. She is also called "Sower of Hope" in that she must be a messenger of hope in every environment: place of work, family, and Church. She consecrates her whole life to respond to the thirst of Christ for the holiness of all. She lives and spreads the spirituality of redemptive love and consecrates her life to it. Her primary field of apostolate is the Pro Sanctity Movement. |
Qualifications for entry
An External Oblate lives on her own, develops her career, and promotes sanctity in and through social structures, especially within her profession. She is consecrated to the Lord through her vows and her promise of apostolate. Age requirements: Between 18 and 35 yrs.
An Internal Oblate is also consecrated and lives in community at a Bethany. She is totally available to be sent as a missionary to new places for the spreading of the call to holiness through the Pro Sanctity Movement. Age requirements: Between 18 and 35 yrs.
A Cooperative Oblate is either married or has discerned matrimony as her vocation. She is pledged to the ideal of the apostolic oblation through a promise (not a vow). She carries on the apostolate of holiness mainly within her family, but also through Pro Sanctity activities and wherever she goes. Age requirements: between 18 and 45 yrs. |
Formation program
All three styles of commitment to the Apostolic Oblation are permanent. After a period of discernment and then comprehensive formation, vows (or pledges) are made annually for the first five years. After that, they are renewed for one five-year period; in the tenth year, they are made final. All Apostolic Oblates, regardless of individual careers and work also strive to specialize in theology and spirituality. |
