About Us
Mission statement/description
The charism of this community is to be the compassionate Heart of Jesus for all people through love, service and reparation. They are Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, consecrated women of the Church. Impelled by the Spirit active in each of them and faithful to the charism of their founder, Celia Merloni, they work to make the compassionate Heart of Christ better known, loved and served. They do this by personal and communal witness to the Gospel, commitment to holiness and ministry to the people of God. They are involved in education, pastoral and social service, parish and retreat ministry, health care, and missionary activity.
Qualifications for entry
Good physical and mental health; ability to live religious life; high school diploma or beyond.
Formation program
The formation program begins with a three-month pre-postulancy period. The women live in a formation community at the Provincialate in Hamden, Connecticut. Following this is the entrance into the postulate where the candidate continues to discern and to verify the authenticity of her call to the Apostles’ charism. The novitiate is a two-year program, one of which is dedicated to practical experience in a community of the province. The candidate then professes first vows. Two years of temporary profession is spent in a formal juniorate program, which may involve ministry or study. The remaining years of temporary profession are spent living and serving in a community of the province. After five years of temporary profession the sister may request perpetual vows.
