About Us
Mission statement/description
The Monastery of the Holy Cross is a small community under the canonical protection of the Archbishop of Philadelphia for the Ukrainians.
The principle work of a monastery such as this one is the worship of God and the pursuit of living in spiritual communion with Him. The free and complete acceptance of the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity, and obedience are joined to the further commitment to hospitality, in a common life with others. Never existing merely for its own sake, the life of this community seeks to be of service to the whole Church in ways determined by local need but without compromising the distinctive requirements for a true cenobitic discipline. The priests of this community occasionally provide liturgical assistance in local parishes and anticipate a growing involvement with priestly formation and other academic opportunities in the area. The primary means of income is their Icon and Books Service bookstore. Short retreats are also available.
Qualifications for entry
Sound mental and physical health; good judgment and common sense. Serious candidates who demonstrate the capability of meeting the requirements for a lifetime commitment are encouraged to contact the monastery.
Formation program
Formation consists of postulancy, followed by a three year novitiate. At the end of the novitiate, the candidate and community must determine the mutual desirability of permanent profession.
