Mission statement/description
The Sisters of Life were founded by the late John Cardinal O'Connor in order to, in his words, "restore to all society a sense of the sacredness of human life." A contemplative apostolic community, the Sisters currently engage in apostolates which include assistance and care for vulnerable pregnant women, post abortion healing, directing a Family Life/Respect Life Office and spiritually aiding pro-lifers. The Sisters also operate a retreat house as well as a resource library. |
Qualifications for entry
Good physical and mental health; some college and/or professional training. |
Formation program
At present, the community has a nine-month postulancy and a two-year novitiate. The first year of the novitiate is the canonical year, and the second is an apostolic year. After that is a period of temporary vows, and then perpetual profession. Besides vows of poverty, chastity and obedience, a fourth vow is taken to protect and advance a sense of the sacredness of human life. |
