About Us

Mission statement/description The Little Sisters of the Poor care for the elderly poor in the spirit of humble service which the Sisters have received as heritage from their mother foundress, Saint Jeanne Jugan. United in fraternal communities, they welcome the elderly as they would Jesus Christ Himself and serve them with love and respect until death. Striving to live the evangelical spirit of the Beatitudes, the Sisters' prayer life includes times of both private and common prayer, centered around the Rosary, the Liturgy of the Hours, the daily celebration of the Eucharist and visits to the Blessed Sacrament. Qualifications for entry Single or widowed Catholic laywoman in good physical health and with sufficient maturity to live the evangelical counsels within the context of community life. Must have at least a high school diploma. Formation program Formation begins with a time of postulancy, followed by a novitiate of two years, after which candidates make temporary vows. The time of temporary vows generally lasts five years, including time in the apostolate, a year of doctrinal studies and a year of international second novitiate at the motherhouse in France. Perpetual vows may be made at the end of this year of second novitiate. Age range/limit 18-40 Consider belated vocations?
